If you follow the tips we have given you and take good care of your Triops; you can see them live for up to 14 weeks, with an average life span of eight weeks. As we mentioned earlier, this is how your prehistoric pets evolved. They are not to live any longer than mentioned. But you can always repeat the cycle!
Repeat the Cycle
During the lifespan of your Triops, you will begin with barely visible eggs and end with a pet you have watched grow every step of the way. You will watch them swim and crawl for the food that you prepared yourself and watch them nibble on it. You will also see them shed their exoskeleton a few times because they are arthropods and shed their skin to grow (they may struggle a bit, which is quite normal). Lastly, you will see your Triops lessen in number over the weeks you care for them. Understand that this is natural, and you will end up with an empty tank.
So, what do you do when your tank is empty? It is a sign that you should repeat the fun process. You can start hatching eggs and taking care of baby Triops until they are fully grown!
Since you already have a tank and all the materials necessary to care for new Triops, you can easily buy a packet of Triops eggs rather than the entire kit. Bu,t the more exciting option is hatching out the eggs that your Triops have laid.
Your prehistoric pets probably lay eggs during their lifespan. You will see eggs that are pinkish on the substrate or attached to the things in the tank. Understand that for these to hatch. It would be best if you dried them first. When your tank empties Triops, remove as much water as possible, leaving only a thin layer of water on the substrate. It is best to use a siphon, especially if you don’t have a substrate. You will have to remove as much water as possible, ensuring that the eggs remain at the bottom of your tank. Leave the substrate to dry for about two weeks or more. Know that the substrate and eggs must be completely dry for your eggs to hatch. Do not worry; you can store your substrate and eggs for years to continue the cycle.
Though the lifespan of your Triops may be short, they leave you with eggs for you. To hatch out a new generation of prehistoric pets for which you can care. Follow all the instructions, directions, and tips we have provided you. And we are sure you will have an endless cycle of prehistoric pets!
